Why did you choose to attend the School of Travel Industry Management?

The reason why I chose the TIM school is because it provided a place where I could learn about the opportunities in the Travel Industry. TIM School classes are small and professors are more than willing to help students to become successful. The TIM program is unique in that in addition to classwork, we are taught the importance of ethics in the workforce.

What do you enjoy most about the school and why?

What I enjoy most about the school is that I am able to learn something new each day in class. Also, I enjoy being able to meet new people and make new friends.

What are three words you would use to describe the TIM School?

Welcoming, Exploring, & Opportunity

What has your favorite class or professor been so far and can you explain why?

My favorite class would be the TIM 200/300 – Internship. It provided an opportunity to learn and grow with hands on experience within the travel industry. I enjoy sharing my internship experiences with fellow student/classmates. Internships provide students with hands-on experience in the industry which will be beneficial in future employment..

What TIM activities/student organizations are you involved in?

I have been a Travel Industry Management Student Association (TIMSA) member for three years. In TIMSA, I was involved in different club activities like socials, community service events, workshops, and site inspections. The reason why I joined the club is because it provided a good opportunity to explore different jobs and to meet professionals within the industry. The club provided a way to meet new people and make new friends who have the same interests and college major.

What internships have you done? What was your role?

I have completed two internships. My first internship was the Disney College Program (DCP) at Disneyland Resort, Anaheim California in Fall 2016. At Disneyland Resort, my role was Quick Service Food & Beverage Cashier at Pacific Wharf at Disney California Adventure. The second internship was at Gourmet Events Hawaii as an Event Producer Intern in Spring 2017.

Can you describe what you enjoyed learning about or doing at your internship?

For the Disney College Program, I enjoyed creating magical moments for guests. I was also able to learn more about the Disney heritage, history and culture. The Gourmet Events Hawaii internship provided an opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the company and to experience event planning from start of finish.

What opportunities are offered in the surrounding community?

There are a lot of amazing resource opportunity available. Everyone should take advantage of network opportunities, like Nā Kukui Netlinks, joining clubs and learning about services available at UHM.

What advice can you give to students who are considering attending the School of Travel Industry Management?

My advice to students is to join any TIM Club (they should definitely join TIMSA). Students should get involved and participate in the many club activities because it can provide insight into the travel industry. If you need help or have questions, seek assistance or advice from the Professors or faculty. They are more than willing to provide help and guidance.
