The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management (TIM) was proud to host the Ambassador Bill & Mrs. Jean Lane Jr. Lectureship in Sustainable Tourism and the Environment on October 28, 2009.
The speakers included three distinguished TIM alumni including Aliana Ho, Vice President, Sales & Travel Trade Marketing for Hong Kong Disneyland, Alex Kong, Founder of Asiatravelmart.com, Clyde Min, Vice President, Asset Management for Pacifica Partners Ltd., and Tsuyoshi Sakata, President of TSC Consulting Corporation.
Dave Evans, TIMI President and Program Coordinator for the Hospitality and Tourism Program at Kapiolani Community College was the moderator.
Aliana Ho (’73) is presently the Vice President, Sales and Travel Trade Marketing of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort where she is responsible for developing and implementing sales strategies. Prior to joining Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, she has held key positions in destination marketing for the Hong Kong Tourism Board, serving as Information Manager to GM of Tourism Marketing. She also worked for Venetian Macau Limited as their Senior Vice President of Destination Marketing and transformed Macau into one of the most spectacular business and leisure destinations.
Alex Kong (’94) founded Asiatravelmart.com, a travel and information technology industry. His business diversified from a B2C travel portal to offering full-fledged travel technology solutions and services for the global travel industry. His group of companies can be seen powering airline, hotel, cruises, numerous multinational corporations in-house business travel solution and travel agent websites in the Asia-Pacific region.
Clyde Min (’71) rejoined Host Hotels & Resorts in July 2009, (previously with Host 2004-2007), as Vice President, Asset Management for Pacifica Partners, Ltd. to provide leadership in hotel portfolio asset management, business development, and operational analysis. Min has held executive positions such as Vice President and General Manager for hotel operations & development for over 25 years, for companies including Regent International Hotels, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and Singapore Mandarin International Hotels (now Meritus Hotels). Currently serves on the TIM Alumni Board and was the recipient of the TIM Alumni Hall of Honor Award.
Tsuyoshi Sakata (’71) is President of TSC Consulting Corporation, Japan. He is experienced in all areas of hotel operations serving as Vice President and General Manager for various Starwood Hotel & Resort properties in Hawaii and Japan since 1980. He opened the first Sheraton Hotel in Japan and served as the Executive Vice President and Director of Operations for Ishin Hotels Group. He previously served on the TIM Alumni Board and was the recipient of the TIM Alumni Hall of Honor Award.
