Jerry Agrusa Ph.D.
Jerry Agrusa is an Professor in the School of Travel Industry Management specializing in hospitality and tourism management. He has been a faculty member at leading hospitality management programs in the USA for over 25 years. Dr. Agrusa’s past positions include the Chair/ Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of North Texas, the Chair/Professor at Hawaiʻi Pacific University and two Endowed Professorships at the University of Louisiana.
Dr. Agrusa is well regarded for his expertise in research and teaching in the area of hospitality and tourism management. In 2017, he was awarded the 2017 the Na Poʻe Paʻahana “Hospitality Educator of the Year” from the Hawaiʻi Lodging and Tourism Association (HLTA) for teaching and inspiring future generations of visitor leaders.
Dr. Agrusa received his doctorate in Tourism Sciences from Texas A&M University and is on the Board of Directors for the Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) and Hawaiʻi Restaurant Association (HRA), the Past- President of Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA)-Hawaiʻi Chapter. Dr. Agrusa is on the Editorial Board for a number of Research Journals’, as well on the International Advisory Board of the China Tourism Research Journal which provides a wide ranging network of collaborations among colleagues and institutions across Asia.
Dr. Agrusa was awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant. Fulbright grants are awarded following a rigorous national competition and are widely viewed as the most prestigious fellowship in the field of international higher education. The prestigious Fulbright program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
Dr. Agrusa is well regarded for his expertise in research and teaching in the area of hospitality and tourism management. He was awarded the title of “Tourism Expert” for the Asia Productivity Organization (APO), an intergovernmental international organization, whose mission is to contribute to the socioeconomic development in the Asia-Pacific region. Through this organization Agrusa has been consulted by a number of government, university and industry tourism leaders from Taiwan, China, Korea, Mongolia and numerous other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr. Agrusa has published over 100 research articles and conference papers and presented his research in more than 25 different countries. His work has been cited in numerous newspapers and magazines including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Forbes.
